Confidentiality & Privacy Policy
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist/counselor. In general, information cannot be disclosed without written permission. Exceptions include:
If suspected child abuse or abuse a dependent adult or elder abuse, I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
If a client intends to harm themselves, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law in order to ensure their safety.
I take your privacy very seriously. Unless you appear to be in danger, or a threat to others, I will not disclose what we discuss to anyone - including spouses, partners, and family members - without your express permission. I know the decision to participate in counseling can be stressful. Our best work will be done when you are able to feel safe and secure. If you have questions about privacy or other confidentiality concerns, please do not hesitate to ask.
In return I ask that you are respectful of other clients you may see entering or exiting the office and understand their own needs for privacy and confidentiality.
While I use text messaging to manage scheduling requests and other practical issues, due to privacy and other concerns, I cannot answer clinical questions nor provide clinical guidance via text message.
